Difference between On-grid and Off-grid Solar?

Off-Grid Solar

As the name suggests, an off-grid solar system is not directly connected with your main electricity supply board (utility grid). The electricity is stored in a component called a “battery.” These batteries store the energy generated by solar, and then distribute it to your home appliances. During night time when the sun sets, solar does not work hence no electricity is produced during this time. Having excess amounts stored in batteries during the day is what keeps the supply of electricity uninterrupted. If your battery has a larger storage capacity then you can use the stored energy during rainy days and stormy nights too.

On-Grid Solar

Whereas an on-grid system ensures an uninterrupted supply of electricity in your house 24 hours. During peak sunlight hours, solar generates electricity and during the rest of the day, your utility grid provides electricity. Through this system, you are able to generate excess electricity which can be sold back to utility providers.
